Camp in Saadine,Akkar(North Lebanon)
Akkar, North Lebanon. After the training of teachers for Syrian youth in Beirut, one of the participants approached us. The young man asked to give the programme in Akkar, in a camp near Saadine, where his family was staying. However, the programme was only planned for Beirut, Bekaa, and Tyre. The Aflatoun Lebanon representative, Herman van Uum, joined the trainer to meet the children the trainer told him about. In the camp, he met a group of 30 children who started telling him enthusiastically about their dreams and what they loved doing in school. He also met with some of the parents of the children, who told about what they believe is important for their children to learn. Of course, reading and writing are a must. But, they also felt basic life skills, such as understand themselves, understanding other people and respecting them, basic planning and organizing skills and grasping the concept of money. Together with the facilitators, the children immediately got started with some of these topics. They couldn't get enough of it and after the class one of the girls grabbed the book of the facilitator and started explaining the lesson of next week to her friends.
