This January, Aflatoun helped students plan and run an Environmental Day, in which they both learned about the environment, food, and agriculture, and also got to participate in planting flowers themselves. Two schools, over 100 kids, participated in the event, and it was funded by a bake sale that the children threw earlier in the month. The goal of the project was not just to teach the children about the environment, but also to have them practiced what they have been learning about financial responsibility themselves.
The two classes had a lesson from the agriculture faculty of a university on crops and agriculture, learning about how they grow, and how to successfully plant them. They then got to put this learning in to practice (with a little help from the adults!) by planting and tending flowers themselves in a public garden in Sin el Fil.
